What does Authenticity mean anyway? 🌟

Authenticity. It's a term we've all heard countless times, especially in the world of business and personal development. So much so that it became the 2023 word of the year by Merriam Webster, reflecting its presence in our minds.

But let's get real: as much as it's tossed around like confetti at a New Year's Eve party, Authenticity is often as misunderstood as the complex twists in a true crime story. πŸŽ‰πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

You know, I get asked about it all the time. "Barb, what does 'authentic' really mean? How do I show up authentically without messing it up?" Sound familiar? Are you nodding along, wondering the same? πŸ€”πŸ’

We've heard 'authenticity' tossed around in meetings, conferences, group chats, and all over social media. But let's clear the air. Being authentic isn't just about honesty. It's about the courage to show up as your whole, wonderful self – every part of you, from your strengths to your uncertainties – flaws, strengths, doubts, and all. πŸ’ͺπŸ™ŒπŸŒŸ

So….it challenged me to put into words what I really mean. In my mind, it's a simple yet profound formula.

Realness + Vulnerability = Authenticity βœ¨βž•πŸ’–

This equation isn't just a catchy phrase; it's a guiding principle that has propelled both my personal and professional journeys. πŸš€πŸ“š

My Authenticity Formula

Realness is the foundation, and I've learned to apply this in my own life. It's about staying true to who you are, your values, and your beliefs. It's not about conforming to what you think others expect of you (otherwise known as people pleasing). This genuine approach in life and business means making decisions that align with your core, even when it's not the popular choice. πŸ›€οΈπŸ’Ό

But realness alone isn't enough.

This is where vulnerability comes into play. Vulnerability is about letting your guard down and allowing yourself to be seen – truly seen. It's sharing your journey, struggles, and successes and connecting with others on a human level. πŸ’”πŸ’¬πŸ€—

In business, when I started sharing not just my achievements but also the challenges and setbacks, I noticed a shift. Clients, colleagues, and even friends began to engage more deeply, not just with my services but with me as a person. This connection forged stronger, more meaningful relationships, which, in turn, fueled both business growth and personal fulfillment. πŸ’ΌπŸ€πŸ“ˆ

Similarly, in my personal life, embracing vulnerability has led to more genuine connections. By being open about my own doubts and fears, I've been able to form bonds that are rooted in mutual understanding and respect. πŸ‘«β€οΈπŸ—£οΈ

So take it from me…….Authenticity is more than a buzzword; it's a powerful blend of being real and being open. It's about showing up, not just as who we think we should be, but as who we truly are, vulnerabilities and all. πŸŒŸπŸ’―πŸ™
