How many times have you sat through a sales presentation or scrolled on social media and have come across the word “authentic?” At this point, this buzzword has faded into background noise because we’ve heard it so.many.times.

What does building authentic relationships really look like?

Here’s how I define authenticity: Realness + Vulnerability 

There’s no way to say you're authentic without showing people who you truly are, unfiltered.

It’s time that we take off our masks and let go of perfection and embrace the beautiful humans that we are.

How to practice authenticity.

Be real.  

It’s about staying true to who you are, your values, and your beliefs. It’s not about conforming to what you think others expect of you.

Here are some examples of what this may look like in your business marketing:


⭐ Sharing what’s happening behind-the-scenes

⭐ Informing others about issues that matter to you

⭐ Sharing unpopular opinions

In those moments of sharing what seems to be scary, you’ll see that others are responding and saying, “Oh my gosh - me too!”

And sharing real content means you have to be vulnerable, let your guard down, and allow yourself to be seen –
truly seen.

I know that this can be terrifying but I can tell you that once you try it, it’s pretty freeing and you wouldn’t believe the amount of support that pours in.

Try sharing your journey, setbacks, and successes and connecting with others on a human level. We love to know that we are not alone in our struggles, you’ll see that the more that you share your stories, the deeper the relationships grow.

You do not have to share every scar or deep secret - it’s more about acknowledging that you are not perfect and that you have amazing days and then also the days you want to forget altogether.

Because, the more real and vulnerable you are, the more relatable you become.

So why is authenticity important in business?

When you practice realness and vulnerability, your authenticity will shine which will lead to building trust which in turn converts to sales and referrals. They all build upon each other as a solid foundation for building relationships.

3 Simple Steps to Practicing Authenticity: 

1️⃣ Be Genuine: Drop the masks and be true to yourself. People connect with real, not perfect.

2️⃣ Share Your Story: Tell your journey, struggles, and successes. It’s your unique story and opinion that sets you apart.

3️⃣ Listen and Engage: Authenticity is a two-way street. Listen to others, engage, and build real connections.

Take it from me, when I started sharing not just my achievements but also the challenges and setbacks, I noticed a shift. Clients, colleagues, and even friends began to engage more deeply, not just with my services but with me as a person.
